52 Library Card Uses
Join a book discussion group. Number 17 in a series of uses for your library card.
As much fun as it is to read a book, it’s often even more fun to speak with somebody else about it. You wonder why a character did what she did, or if people are really that different in the south, or why people didn’t just get up and run when the fighting started!
Book discussion groups give you the opportunity to compare reactions to plot developments, to bring new information forward, and to learn more about how an author manipulates the reader (in a good way). You have a richer experience of the book. And that’s just the beginning of how you can benefit from being in a book discussion group. You’re likely to be exposed to different points of view, you’ll get to read books you might otherwise overlook, and you’ll probably meet new people.
Great River Regional Library (GRRL) purchases book club kits that include multiple copies of books. Most also include a reading guide and even an audiobook version. You can do a General Keyword search of the library catalog using book club kit to see the more than 230 titles available, including kits for juveniles and young adults.
Contact your local GRRL location to find out if a book discussion group meets regularly. If not, feel free to speak with the library staff about starting one. It’s a great way to enjoy the library.
