Reading Rox at the Annandale Library
Four St. Cloud Rox baseball players visited the Annandale library in early August to read to local youth, share their baseball stories and sign gloves, balls and posters.
The Rox are part of the Northwoods summer amateur league whose players come from all over the country. All Rox players are college students who must keep an amateur status to be able to play for their universities and qualify for scholarships. Three of the four players who came to Annandale, Kyle Murray, Evan Wolf, and Clay Williamson, attend university in California while Vincent Jackson is a student in Tennessee. Each came to play for the Rox as amateurs hoping for their lucky break to be noticed by a pro scout. To keep their amateur status, the players cannot receive compensation for playing the game and because they are either practicing or playing, there is very little time to have a side job. While playing for the Rox, players live with host families that provide room, board and other essentials. Annandale fans were excited to meet the players and enjoyed a variety of stories including Abbott and Costello’s classic, “Who’s On First?”
