After a brief hiatus from intense summer programming at the St. Michael Library, we are enjoying an action-packed and fun-filled October calendar. In addition to the every Wednesday Preschool Story Time, look for our popular Toddler Time on Monday, Oct. 22 from 10:05 to 10:35 a.m. And once again there will be a Third Thursday Fun Day. The Eagle Bend Friends of the Library hosted the second 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program celebration with seven children reaching the 1,000 book goal. A clown performance by Edwin Meyer kicked off the event which was attended by 31 children and 22 adults. Each 1,000 Book winner was presented with a certificate and a stuffed animal and matching book. Read more »
September is Banned Books Month, a time when libraries across the United States celebrate the freedom to read freely. Come to Room 259 (upper level) at the St. Cloud Public Library Monday through Thursday this week from 5:30-6:30 p.m. to listen to selections from books whose presence in public or school libraries has been frequently challenged. Stop by the Monticello Public Library and see our newest Library Assistant! Our Do It Yourself Scarecrow program resulted in 23 scarecrows made by 20 children and their families. Check out our events calendar to see more great programs we have scheduled for this fall.
The first week in September was quite the week at the Sauk Centre Library. We had the huge job of getting the library ready for new carpet. This included the task of removing items from the shelves, moving furniture, and other minor details. Thanks to the help of the staff and some volunteers, the work was done in no time. Hopper was the center of attention at a special Elk River story time on Monday, Sept. 17. Hopper the big reading frog has been traveling around Great River Regional Library locations, helping young children get the message that reading is fun at Leap Into Reading events. Read more »
September is national Library Card Sign-Up Month, and this year Cold Spring Public Library was able to make its celebration extra special. The Cold Spring Lions donated a “school supplies cake” to the library to give away as a prize to a lucky patron who used their library card during September. Read more »
Big Lake Public Library recently celebrated its first 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten graduation and six children participated. Three of the six completed all 1,000 books. After marching in to the music of "Pomp and Circumstance" wearing their graduation hats, each child was presented with a diploma, a goody bag and a balloon. Read more »
Are you worried about the plight of the Truffula Trees? Do you believe we don't need any more Thneeds? Then you'll want to cheer for the protagonist in our next installment of "Now Showing" at St. Cloud Public Library. Popcorn, water, and Kool-Aid will be served. The front of the Pierz Public Library has been given a new look. This past summer, new siding, windows, rock accent and a door were installed. Also a wooden awning was placed over the front of the library. It has an entirely new facade. Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Pierz purchased a sign for the front window. It makes the library noticeable as you drive by. Read more »
