More than 100 minors regained borrowing privileges thanks to Great River Regional Library’s first “Read Down Your Fines” program.
After all of the numbers were totaled, library staff felt happy that the effort was a success. So much so, the program will be offered again in October.

On Tuesday, July 30, four GRRL branch libraries will host the MacPhail Center for Music’s "Sing, Play, Learn" program for children ages 0-5. MacPhail’s early childhood music specialists will help children explore musical concepts through hands-on, play-based, integrated arts formats including songs, rhymes, and literature. Read more »

The Long Prairie Public Library is hosting a traveling exhibit on "Minnesota's Civic Legacy." The exhibit is from the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota, and includes photographs and text of 18 successful rehabilitations of publicly owned properties across the state. Read more »
A major surprise in a new report from the Pew Research Center is that even in an age of increasing digital resources, people under 30 are more likely than older Americans to use and appreciate libraries as places to study for class, go online, or just hang out.

Jessica Meyer is on the second phase of earning her Gold Award for Girl Scouts. She is painting a mural in the children's area at the Delano Library. The mural, which will surround the entire children's room, features characters from favorite books. She surveyed children, friends and adults to generate her ideas. The mural features five landscapes - hills, forest, sea, city and night. Read more »
This summer, the Minnesota Association of Library Friends (MALF), together with the Sinclair Lewis Foundation, and the United for Libraries’ Literary Landmarks Association will add the Sinclair Lewis Boyhood Home in Sauk Centre to the list of nationally recognized Literary Landmarks. Read more »
Author Chad Lewis will speak at the St. Cloud Public Library on Saturday, July 13, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Lewis is an expert on the paranormal and bizarre, such as sea serpents, Big Foot and phantom pigs. The bookdrop outside of the Albany Library was replaced on July 2. Patrons and staff alike are celebrating its return and their ability to return books whenever they want to do so. The old bookdrop was damaged on June 11. Since then patrons have had to return books during open hours or return them at other libraries. Read more »
