Belgrade READ book club to discuss novel based at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair
Join the Belgrade READ book club on Friday, Aug. 16 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. to discuss author Deeanne Gist's novel, It Happened at the Fair. In the book, young Cullen McNamara travels to the 1893 Chicago World's Fair with his invention hoping to make his fortune. When noise at the fair's Machinery Hill makes it impossible for the hard-of-hearing inventor to deal with buyers, he hires a young teacher of hearing-impaired children to tutor him in the art of lip-reading. Cullen is caught in a whirl between his girl back home, his dreams as an inventor, and his attraction to his new tutor.
