Hopper Leaps Into Reading at Belgrade
Hopper the reading frog joined a storytime group at the Belgrade Public Library - Myrtle Mabee Library on Monday, April 9.
Branch Assistant Jane Anderson read a selection of books about frogs, including one about the life-cycle of a frog. The children were attentive, asking questions and contributing to the conversation. At one point she asked the children about the kinds of books they enjoy. Perhaps not surprisingly in such a rural location, one boy answered "John Deere books."
The children made and ate frog cookies with marshmallow eyes, and washed them down with green "pondwater." It was all a bit much for Hopper. He plans to visit each of the 32 Great River Regional Library branches this year. It's part of the Leap Into Reading initiative from the Minnesota Department of Education.
