Big Lake Celebrates Graduates of 1,000 Books Program
The Big Lake Public Library has celebrated its second graduating class of the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. As the name suggests, each student in the program has the goal of reading or listening to 1,000 books before entering kindergarten. That level of exposure to books and stories provides children with a big step up in reading readiness as they enter kindergarten.
Encouragement toward the goal is provided by the library in the way of a reading record, prizes, activities such as the graduation party, and a never-ending supply of new books to read.
Other libraries in Great River Regional Library to offer the 1,0000 Books Before Kindergarten program include Buffalo, Clearwater, Delano, Eagle Bend, Elk River, Monticello, Paynesville, Rockford, St. Michael, Staples and Waite Park.
Big Lake's program receives sponsorship support from Target Corp. and the Big Lake Friends of the Library.
