Blue Ribbon Reader

Blue Ribbon Reader

Some lucky kid from Great River Regional Library (GRRL) will be recognized as a Blue Ribbon Reader at the Minnesota State Fair this year.

The fair has scheduled September 2 as a day of activities celebrating reading. It's called "The Great Minnesota Read-Together." The day's purpose is to promote literacy, learning, libraries and fun to families and children from ages 0-18. Kids of all ages can enjoy great performers, meet an author, hear a storytime, play games and more. Also that day, Blue Ribbon Readers from Minnesota's twelve regional library systems will be recognized.

Children ages 5-12 on July 1, 2009 who are taking part in the Summer Reading Program are eligible for random drawings to select a reader from each GRRL branch library. Those children whose names are drawn will receive certificates recognizing their participation and be entered into a further drawing for the GRRL Blue Ribbon Reader. That lucky child will receive four free tickets to the Minnesota State Fair and be recognized at the reading celebration.

The branch drawings will take place Wednesday, July 22. It's not too late to sign up and start reading!
