Boy Scout Earns Eagle Award Building Cokato Shelves
Ian Wuollet, a Cokato area Boy Scout, has earned his Boy Scout Eagle Award by building 15 new book shelves for the Cokato Public Library to house book collections, DVDs and videos.
“Ian was very conscientious about his project. We worked together in deciding how many we needed and what size,” said Branch Manager Sheila Rieke. “He checked and rechecked the stain to make sure it matched the wood shelves currently in our library. Once the shelves were built he brought them in and helped rearrange our collection and put books, videos, DVDs away on new shelves.”
Wuollet organized the project from start to finish which included brainstorming for the project. The library had outgrown its space and needed additional shelving that would keep materials from falling over and looking disorganized, Rieke said. Wuollet worked with Rieke on what type and size of shelves to make. He put together the materials and volunteers, estimated the cost and secured donations to bring his idea to completion.
“Now we are well organized with shelving that’s aesthetically pleasing and functional, too,” Rieke said.
