Full House For Cold Spring Storytime
More than 30 children and ten adults attended the Leap Into Reading storytime at the Cold Spring Public Library on July 11. The library was packed. Storytimes usually take place in a designated meeting room, but the library is in a building that houses City of Cold Spring offices, and other city employees were meeting.
Storytime crowded into the children's area. Max Backes, a retired Early Childhood Family Education teacher, led the storytime. After beginning with some loosening up exercises to relax the kids, she read The Caterpillar And The Polliwog by Jack Kent, Fine As We Are by Algy Craig Hall, and other stories. Hopper, Great River Regional Library's big, green, Leap Into Reading Mascot sat alongside Backes. He never gets tired of frog stories. Later, children made masks at crafting tables in the library's adult area.
Cold Spring Public Library was one of the busiest Great River Regional Library locations in 2011, but it has one of the smallest footprints and no staff or storage room. The library has been engaged in a fundraising and planning process for several years with the goal of moving to a location large enough to match the community's potential usage.
