Collections in Motion: DVDs and New Materials Get New Homes at St. Cloud Library

One of the exciting aspects of moving St. Cloud Public Library into its beautiful new facility has been discovering how to use the space to best advantage. Notably, library patrons' experience of the building has lead to changes that allow quicker service and greater convenience.  One recent change involved moving the New Materials Collection from the first floor to the second floor, directly north of the central staircase, to reduce waiting time at the Checkout desk on the main floor.

Library staff determined it took too much time to retrieve, box, and check out DVDs, a very popular collection item at St. Cloud.  Staff speeded up DVD checkout by placing DVDs in their cases and moving the DVD collection to where the New Materials Collection had been on the first floor.

New Materials were moved upstairs, east of the elevator, so they would be close to most of the other collections library patrons like to browse. Because this location also has comfortable seating, library patrons can now browse new material comfortably, and savor the collection in nearby armchairs.

The next time you come to St. Cloud Public Library to see what's new and exciting, come to the Second Floor and prepare to enjoy the New Materials Collection.
