The Mixed Blood Theatre is a multi-racial professional theater group based in Minneapolis. “Daughters of Africa” by Syl Jones has been part of its touring repertoire since 1990. It’s a musical performance encompassing three centuries in the lives of African American women, from slave woman to Oprah, featuring songs from Bessie Smith to Aretha Franklin and Lena Horne to Beyonce. You can find interesting materials that support this program at your library.

The public, including children of all ages, is invited to each of these presentations. They are funded with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008, which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage.
