Delano: A Hoppin' Place
The Delano Public Library was a hoppin' place Tuesday, July 3.
Volunteer presenter and amateur naturalist Tamra Kowalski brought a collection of frogs, toads and other amphibious creatures to the library for an eventful Leap Into Reading program.
More than 60 children in attendance burst into laughter and activity when one of the frogs escaped and bounded through the crowd. Kowalski's crew of boy helpers tracked the frog down behind some shelving and recaptured it.
"This is a great program for boys," said Branch Manager Carol Plocher. "All our programs are for boys and for girls, but this is the kind of program boys really enjoy."
After listening to sound recordings of various frogs, looking at several kinds of frogs, and enjoying some froggy stories, children could go outside for frog races, make origami frogs, or learn how to make balloon animal frog hats. An hour of activity flew by.
