Preschool Reading Celebration / 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Awards at Eagle Bend
The annual Preschool Reading and 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program celebration for the Eagle Bend Public Library took place on Thursday evening, Sept. 12 at the Eagle Bend Assembly of God Church.
Children and families were entertained by Robert and Lynn Halbrook's "Magic Rabbit" show.
The goal of the 1,000 Books program is for children going into kindergarten to read or have read to them 1,000 books. This prepares them for learning how to read and academic success. Those who had reached the goal received a hard cover book and matching stuffed animal. The night was filled with lots of magic tricks, balloons and refreshments. The program is supported with funds from the Eagle Bend Area Friends of the Library.
The 1,000 Books program started two years ago and to this date 12 children have reached the 1,000 books mark. Children taking part in the program get to pick prizes from a huge treasure chest for each 100 books read in addition to the end prize of a book and stuffed animal. Families interested in registering their children for the program are invited to call the Eagle Bend Public Library @ 218-738-4590.
