Enjoy Author Talks
Throughout the year you can hear local, regional and even national authors talk about their books and craft at Great River Regional Library author talks. Check the events page for details. Two author talks are scheduled for July.
Minnesota Book Award winner Barbara Sommer will talk about her book "Hard Work and a Good Deal: The Civilian Conservation Corps in Minnesota" at the Howard Lake Public Library at 6:45 p.m. on July 15. As a way to provide employment during the difficult years between the Great Depression and WWII, the government hired young men to work on numerous projects, mostly related to safeguarding natural resources. Sommer's book, published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press, describes this fascinating period in Minnesota history and the accomplishments of the Conservation Corps that we enjoy to this day. Sommer will give a slide presentation, talk about her book and answer questions.
Author Betsy Johnson-Miller, from Avon, will be at the Albany Public Library to sign copies her new young adult book "The Bracelet" on Friday, July 24, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. "The Bracelet" is a fantasy-adventure tale targeted at adolescent girls that dramatizes many of the issues teenagers face. Johnson-Miller will talk about her book and her experiences as an author.
