Enjoy Winter Reading

The period of dark nights and cold days in between the holidays and spring thaw may be the best reading time of the year. With a mug of cocoa, a warm blanket and a good book you can escape the cold and go any place your imagination takes you. Make that experience even better by taking part in Great River Regional Library’s Winter Reading Program.

The program begins at all library locations on Thursday, Jan. 2 and ends Saturday, Feb. 22. The program is for adults and teens in sixth-grade or older. Its theme is “Make Tracks to Your Library.” You can register online.

By completing and turning in a drawing slip after reading five books during the program, you will be included in prize drawings for decorated mugs, fun library calendars and grand prize gift cards. There are no reading restrictions. You are encouraged to enjoy fiction, non-fiction books or audiobooks of your choice. The more books you read, the more opportunity you have to increase your chance of winning.

Winter reading will also be encouraged by community read events featuring “To Kill A Mockingbird,” author talks, book clubs and other events at many GRRL locations. Check our Events listings, or pick up an Event Guide at your local library for more information.
