Great River Regional Library One of the Best
Great River Regional Library (GRRL) joined some St. Cloud area institutions and familiar names in the St. Cloud Times online survey for “Best of Central Minnesota.” GRRL placed third in the categories of “Place to Buy Books” and “Under 21 Venue.” About 4,600 ballots were cast, according to the Times story.
Books are sold within the St. Cloud Public Library by the St. Cloud Friends of the Library who operate a book store selling withdrawn and donated books (see photo).
Young people meet and study in all areas of the St. Cloud Public Library, and its Teen Area especially has become a magnet for high school students who flood the area and its Internet stations in the late afternoon.
The categories for this year’s survey tended toward food and the interests of the young (best burger, best coffeehouse, best tattoos and piercing, best tribute/cover band). Apparently the categories change, because in 2009 the library was a leading vote receiver in the “best free activity” category, which was not included this year.
