Little Falls Reader Wins $1,000 Sweepstakes
Janaya Heffron of Little Falls was the winner of the "Get Creative @ Saving For College Sweepstakes" for Great River Regional Library (GRRL).
The sweepstakes was sponsored by the Minnesota College Savings Plan and the Department of Education State Library Services. It offered children participating in the 2009 Minnesota Summer Reading Program a chance to win cash for college and a cash award for their library. Winners were selected for each of Minnesota's regional library systems. Janaya signed up for the sweepstakes the same day she registered for the Summer Reading Program at the Carnegie Library in Little Falls. She will now receive $1,000 that she may use toward her college fund. Because she registered at the Carnegie Library, it will receive $500.
Janaya is a familiar face at the library. Staff remember her sitting on the counter as other members of the family checked out books when she was an infant. She's now a third-grader and reading chapter books. The "Winnie The Horse Gentler" series is her current favorite.
