Todd County Imagination Library Kickoff Event

Children and parents are invited to the Imagination Library kickoff event at the Long Prairie Public Library on Saturday, May 1 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. All parents with children under five years of age are encouraged to come and sign their children up in order to receive a free book each month until their fifth birthday. Children living in Todd County are eligible for the program. The Long Prairie library is located at 42 Third Street N.

The Imagination Library, a community-sponsored program designed to foster a love of reading among preschool children, was the brainchild of Dolly Parton, who believes an important way to improve the educational attainment of children is to provide them with access to books. She began the Imagination Library in 1996 by offering books to families in Sevier County in East Tennessee, where she grew up. From there the program has expanded to communities across the country as well as in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Local Imagination Library sponsors include a variety of businesses, individuals, and organizations in Todd County. The fiscal agent is United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties.
