The Library Catalog is more than just a catalog. It’s a tool to help you manage your use of library resources. It’s a place where you can renew your loans, place requests, keep track of your library activity, and even pay your fines.
By default, the Library Catalog opens to a red tab and Search bar. This is where you probably go to find items you’d like to borrow. But we’re not going to talk about search strategies now.
Click on the My Account tab, and a brown bar opens with headings for Overview, Checked Out, Holds, Fines/Blocks, My Digital Account, Pay Fines, and Profile. Enter your borrower barcode number and pin number (birth month and day) to log in.
Overview: This shows how many items out you have checked out, overdue and lost; how many hold requests you have; any charges outstanding; and a Profile link to your address information.
Checked Out: This lists items you have checked out, including the due dates. Next to each item is a small window. If you click in that window then click the Renew button on top of the list, that item will receive a new due date (unless it has been placed on hold by another patron). You may renew an item twice before it must be checked in. If the item cannot be renewed, a red message will appear onscreen notifying you.
Holds: This lists items you have requested. Two groups may appear. The top group is requested items ready for pick up at your library: items are held for five days. The second group is requested items not yet available. You can manage this list to your benefit. If you request an item, but then no longer want it, please cancel your request. Just click in the window next to the item and click the Cancel Request button. If you still want to receive the item, but at a later date – perhaps because you are leaving on vacation – click in the window next to the item and then click on the Change Status button: you can suspend your request until a day you select with the drop-down calendar.
Fines/Blocks: This list itemizes any charges accumulated on your account. Beginning in January, 2011, patrons will not be allowed to check out items if they have any charges outstanding.
My Digital Account: You will need to enter your complete barcode number and pin number again to access the digital library account of your eBook and eAudiobook activity.
Pay Fines: This tab takes you to an eCommerce interface where you can pay down any fines or charges on your account using Visa or Mastercard.
Profile: This tab shows the personal information the library has on file associated with your library card. By entering your email address on this page, you will begin to receive notification of item availability (holds) by email instead of by phone. Please notify staff if any information is incorrect.
