Monticello Library celebrates Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros

This annual celebration of children and literacy evolved from the first world conference for the Well-Being of Children in 1925. Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros translates into the Day of the Child, the Day of the Book and promotes literacy and the importance of linking all children to books, languages, and cultures. The Monticello Library has been celebrating this event since 2006.
This year’s celebration took place at the Latino Health Fair at the Monticello Community Center on Saturday, April 30. Children enjoyed bilingual story times with Every Child Ready to Read literacy skills in Spanish, cultural crafts such as the traditional God’s Eyes, and Fiesta Flower Garlands and Spanish Bingo! Aldo Ramos and his Mariachi group entertained with Mexican and Latin music which was provided by the State of Minnesota Legacy funding obtained through Great River Regional Library.
