The library's video collection is terrific, including recently purchased Documentaries & How-to DVDs. A selection is listed on the New, Best & Fun page. Here are a few of the recent purchases.
1964 was a year in which Civil Rights activism became mainstream and The Beatles took over the pop charts. The clips of surviving film from the era is exciting, fun, and inspiring. Many of the rights Americans take for granted are not given to women in other countries. Girl Rising makes the case that providing equal educational opportunity for girls around the world will lead to better societies. Speaking of Civil Rights, Spies Of Mississippi reveals how the state of Mississippi sought to undermine the civil rights movement of the '60s using all means possible, including a network of spies. We know how the Civil Rights battles ended, but sometimes, filmmakers get taken to places they didn't expect. In 2009 filming began on a documentary of Lance Armstrong's return to cycling after a brief retirement. Things didn't go how the filmmakers expected, and the celebratory documentary morphed into The Armstrong Lie, a record of the professional cyclist's downfall.
