NoveList for Readers

Find Read-Alike Books with NoveList Features
It feels terrific to find a new author you absolutely love, but horrible to finish a series and wonder, “what’s next?”
Well, you can fill your reading future with exciting possibilities if you spend just a little time exploring and learning how the book database NoveList works. Using its features, you can find books, authors and even series that are similar to ones you’ve enjoyed. It’s a great tool to improve your reading pleasure. Here’s how.

From the NoveList Home Page
NoveList is available on the Great River Regional Library databases page.
In the “Search For” box at the top of the page, enter the name of an author or book or series, remembering to click the corresponding button. When you then click “search,” the body of the page fills with content, and panels on the right side of the page fill with read-alike information. For example, if you enjoyed “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” you could enter that title in the search box and search by title. Immediately, read-alike titles appear in the right column. Below that list are descriptive options you can use to find more read-alikes. Select from the options to generate a new list.

Author: A British mystery favorite is author Colin Dexter. Dexter seems to have retired, but an author search for read-alikes provides recommendations including Andrea Camilleri, Elizabeth George, and Michael Chabon.
Series: Dexter’s series is the Inspector Morse Mysteries. When those words are entered in the search bar and the Series button clicked, the Novelist search provides series by Michael Connelly, Lisa Gardner, Louise Penny and more.
Title: Using the title of a Dexter book (“Last Bus To Woodstock”) a further search provides titles by authors including Jeffery Deaver, Tess Gerritsen and W.E.B. Griffin.

However you search, you find new books that are somehow similar to the book you began with.
As one door closes, another door opens.
Visit NoveList with your library card ready. Place holds. Read. Have fun.
