Civil War Reading and Discussion Series at Paynesville Library
On Monday nights in October, the Paynesville Public Library will host a series of reading and discussion programs based on March by Geraldine Brooks, Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam by James McPherson. and America's War: Talking About the Civil War and Emancipation on Their 150th Anniversaries, edited by Edward L. Ayers. Saint John's University professor and Civil War scholar Dr. David P. Bennetts will lead the discussions and provide additional insight. The programs will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Paynesville Public Library (119 Washburne Ave.). Participants can reserve copies of the books through the Great River Regional Library catalog in advance, so they can read them and prepare to participate in the conversation. The program is open to all, and interested participants can register for the programs at www.griver.org/pa.
Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War, a reading and discussion series, has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.
