Hopper Made Welcome At Paynesville
Hopper, Great River Regional Library's Leap Into Reading mascot, was made welcome at the Paynesville Public Library on Thursday, June 7.
Branch Manager Gretchen Vork hugged Hopper and introduced him to the large group of children and parents assembled for storytime at the library. Leap Into Reading is the State of Minnesota's literacy campaign designed to raise awareness of programs that promote lifelong reading success. The library is currently promoting the Summer Reading Program to encourage children to continue reading throughout the summer.
The Paynesville group enjoyed a PowerPoint presentation of David Wiesner's wonderful book Tuesday, about flying frogs. Volunteer Ken Vork (Gretchen's husband, a school band director and trombone player) had composed alternative soundtracks for children to comment on. The entire group brainstormed a story centered on Hopper. Then, they all had cake before heading out into what remained of the sunny day.
