Paynesville Summer Activities a Splash Hit!
"Make A Splash At Your Library" and "Make Waves At Your Library" ended Saturday, Aug. 14. Children ages 0-12 and area teens signed up in record numbers for these programs which encourage reading throughout the summer school vacation. In 2010, 230 participants registered, which beat 2009's total of 185. In addition, 688 people of all ages attended summer programs sponsored by the Paynesville branch of Great River Regional Library. Amongst the most popular were the Minnesota Zoomobile visit (124 people), Great River Jazz Collective Big Band concert at Veteran's Park (202), the ArtOrg 1,000 Print Summer event during Town and Country Days (107) and the weekly "Fun Thursdays" events (265 over 9 weeks). "Fun Thursdays" were funded by the Friends of the Paynesville Public Library (FOL) and Legacy funds, and were presented by FOL members, Girl Scouts, St. John's Arboretum staff, and Paynesville Branch Assistant Michele Cornelius (pictured). Watch the Paynesville branch website for upcoming events for the fall and winter: the library staff is busy planning Legacy events and performances, teen programs, story times and other special programs.
