Make Pioneer Style Apple Head Dolls at Pierz Library
Step back in time. Plan to take this wonderful opportunity to make an American folk doll at the Pierz Public Library. Mary Lou Yatckoske will be presenting and assisting attendees in making an apple head doll that wears corn husk clothes.
This doll is made by first carving a face in an apple and drying it. Due to the different effects drying produces, no two dolls are alike. Then the doll will be dressed in clothes made from corn husks.
Pioneers made dolls from anything that could be found on land or recycled, and this included apples. Pioneer women made their own dolls for their children. A few apple head dolls from the 1800s can still be found today as antiques.
This class will be held on Wednesday, April 11, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Attendance is limited to 20 participants. Sign up at the desk or call the Pierz Public Library at (320) 468-6486.
