Joyce Sutphen comes to Royalton
Joyce Sutphen, Minnesota's Poet Laureate, delighted an appreciative Royalton audience on Wednesday evening, May 9. Sat in a comfortable chair, Sutphen selected poems from all of her published books. However, most of the readings came from her latest work, First Words: Poems. She read some of her current, unpublished poetry and also recited from memory works from other poets including Robert Frost. She graciously signed books, posed for photos, and visited with her fans well into the evening. Sutphen was raised on a family farm near St. Joseph, MN. She is currently a professor at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and was named Minnesota's poet laureate in August 2011.
