Paul Imholte delights Royalton audience
Paul Imholte lived up to his stage name, the musical string man, when he performed for an appreciative audience at the Royalton Public Library on Wednesday evening, April 11.
Imholte entertained folks not only with his voice but with the variety of string instruments he brought along. These included the guitar, banjo, mandolin, jaw harp and dulcimer. He moved effortlessly between his instruments, delighting the audience with original compositions and other more familiar tunes including the Beatles hit, "Here Comes the Sun," and an audience favorite," I am my own Grandpa." He captivated the audience when he recited from memory "The Mountain Whippoorwill," a lengthy poem by Stephen Vincent Benet, adding melodic interludes on his violin.
The audience was comprised of all ages: from children, who seemed especially comfortable around him, to long ago college friends, to others who were there simply to hear good music. At the end of the show Imholte graciously obliged the audience's request for an encore. He finished his performance by singing an original love song about dancing with a loved one. This final song moved some in the audience to tears.
