Sestri Brings Slavic Music to Royalton
The women's choir, Sestri, sang their hearts out for the folks who gathered at the Royalton Public Library on Thursday evening, June 6.
Sestri is made up of women from Central Minnesota who are dedicated to learning and performing folk songs from Eastern Europe. This group of women practice weekly at the St. Francis Music Center in Little Falls under the direction of Celo V'ec. During the performance each song is introduced by members of the choir. The lyrics are explained as the songs are sung in various Slavic languages. These ancient folk songs have simple messages centered around village life, the harvest, and of course love. Their messages ring true to most of us after hundreds of years. When asked if she enjoyed the concert, one audience member replied, "It was so beautiful I felt like weeping."
