The Dance and Music of India at St. Cloud Public Library March 5

Join us at the St. Cloud Public Library for an interactive performance of Indian Music!
Nirmala Rajasekar, one of India's most versatile and gifted musicians and composers, will perform in the library's Mississippi Community Room on Tuesday, March 5, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Rajasekar performs Carnatic music, the 2,000-year-old form of South Indian classical music. She is based in Plymouth, Minnesota and travels all over the world singing and playing her veena, a 7-stringed instrument which is as old as the music itself.  Her musical partner in this presentation is Tanjore K. Murugaboopathi who is from Chennai, India.  Boopathi, as he is popularly known, is a master percussionist and one of the foremost exponents of the 2 headed Mridangam drum - the chief percussion drum of Carnatic music.
This event is free and open to the public.  It is funded in part with a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, and in partnership with the Paramount Arts Trust.
