St. Cloud Library Smart Play Spot Grand Opening Aug. 14
The St. Cloud Public Library will celebrate the Grand Opening of its Smart Play Spot in the children’s area on Wednesday, Aug. 14, with a short ceremony at 11:00 a.m., ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m., and refreshments. The public is invited to attend.
The Smart Play Spot is a unique, hands-on, early literacy environment created by staff from the Minnesota Children’s Museum. It includes a mural and numerous activity stations that can be enjoyed individually by young children. Together, they create a fun play area reminiscent of a Minnesota park scene, with a small cabin, ranger jeep, picnic table and large hollowed tree stump. It’s an area designed with an abundance of integrated built-in letters, pictures and short words, so adults can help children develop early literacy skills while they play in the area.
The Minnesota Children's Museum received funding from the State of Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Fund to support 50 percent of the costs of the design, construction and installation of the Smart Play Spot. Matching funds came from Bernick’s, the Initiative Foundation, the Morgan Family Foundation, the St. Cloud Friends of the Library, and the Jim and Yvonne Sexton Family Foundation.
