St. Cloud Patron Wins Summer College Sweepstakes Prize
Six-year-old Grahm Sanborn of St. Cloud was the lucky winner of the 2011 Destination College Savings Sweepstakes sponsored by Minnesota College Savings Plan (MCSP). Grahm received a ceremonial check at the St. Cloud Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Children were given the opportunity to sign up for the sweepstakes when they registered for the Summer Reading Program. All of Minnesota’s public library systems participated, and prize drawings took place for each of them. In addition to children receiving $1,000 prizes, the branch libraries at which they registered received prizes. Because Grahm registered at the St. Cloud Public Library, it won $500 to be used to support future Summer Reading Programs.
Grahm’s parents Cara and Karl Sanborn will receive the $1,000 cash prize that can be invested in the MCSP, which is the state’s official 529 college savings plan administered by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and managed by TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc.
"We appreciate the successful partnership between Minnesota’s libraries and the Minnesota College Savings Plan," said Renee Hill, MCSP program manager. "Minnesota parents benefit by learning more about saving for college and we hope the prize money can help winning parents get a head start on saving for their child’s future college education."
On hand for the check presentation were GRRL Patron Services Specialist Chris Mallo, Hill, Cara Sanborn, Karl Sanborn, GRRL board member and Stearns County Commissioner Don Otte, GRRL Communications and Fund Development Coordinator Julie Henne, and Grahm’s older brother Simon.
