More Story Time Options Coming in St. Michael
After a month hiatus in December, Pre-School Story Time at the St. Michael Library is in full swing once again. Pre-School Story Time now begins at 10:05 a.m. every Wednesday to accommodate participants who have not had the chance to pre-register.
"Registration will enable us to plan for the addition of crafts or snacks to the Story Time experience in the near future," said Marla Scherber, branch manager of the St. Michael Library. Registration is now being required for most programming done at the libraries within GRRL. "In the old library, we had our volunteer readers conduct story time right in the middle of the children's book shelf area because we had no other place to have it," Scherber said. Now that the new building provides access to a separate programming room, readers will be able to adapt story times to be able to add activities to enhance the story time experience.
The staff and volunteer readers have undergone training in the Every Child Ready to Read (ECRR) initiative. ECRR is designed to support parents and caregivers with the early literacy development of their children birth to age five. For more information about ECRR, visit their website.
St. Michael library staff recently underwent a restructure with their staff hours, enabling them to provide more programming options. For example, a once-a-month Toddler Story Time will be added this spring, and a family-friendly Third Thursday fun day is also being planned with possible movie nights, game nights or other presentations. Look for these additions coming in March.
