Reading Provides Adventure For St. Michael Teen
Participants in the library’s Summer Reading Program were eligible for a Blue Ribbon Reader prize drawing. But first they had to write a short essay on why they love reading. Drawing winners at each Great River Regional Library location were submitted to a region-wide drawing. St. Michael’s local drawing winner was Mackenzie Burke, 14, from St. Michael. Here is an excerpt from her essay.
"Many people have asked me why I like to read. Normally, I would answer the question,’how do you not like reading?’ If I had the time I could come up with multiple answers to that simple question, but in the end it all comes down to one thing: adventure…. For me, the easiest way to have my adventure is to read a book. Not only are they always there, but there is a nearly infinite amount of books you can read also. I can read when I don't know what to do, or when I just want to get away from it all. Plus, the more I read, the easier it is to create my own adventures with my own interesting characters and my own fantastical ideas."
