Staples Grand Opening Scheduled for February 25
The Grand Opening of the Staples Public Library has been scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010. As plans are developed, more details will be shared.
GRRL expects to see a huge increase in usage at Staples when the library moves into its new building. Big Lake is perhaps a similar size community that enjoyed a similar kind of relocation recently. Early this year, Big Lake Public Library moved from a cramped, crowded location without room to display the collection effectively into a much larger building with program rooms and expanded shelving. Checkout of items at Big Lake in October increased 46 percent (6,650 to 9,725) over 2008 totals. The September increase was 30 percent.
The current Staples Public Library is cramped and crowded, hidden away and a little difficult to access. The new library (shown in the rendering by architects Widseth, Smith, Nolting) will be close to well-used roads with adequate parking. It will be in the same complex as the city offices. (As you look at the rendering, the library is on the right, City Hall on the left.)
