Several Great River Regional Library locations are planning to offer Steampunk Jewelry workshops. What is steampunk? It's a modern take on the kind of vision Victorians had about a steam driven, clockwork future in which ships traveled under the ocean, scientists built time machines in their laboratories, and the Earth was visited by flying machines from other worlds. Steampunk style is metallic, a bit clunky and embellished. It translates into jewelry very easily.
We have a steampunk list on the New, Best & Fun page, with books on jewelry making, DVDs with a steampunk setting, and even novels. If you've taken the jewelry workshop you'll find these useful. If you haven't, take a look and become familiar with the style. Then talk with library staff to see if there's a workshop coming to your area.
