Mural Coming Soon to Waite Park Library
Students from the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University are designing a mural for the Great River Regional Library in Waite Park as a service learning project for one of their courses. Six groups of three to four students created preliminary designs after visiting the library and meeting with staff to gather ideas and input. The students then returned to the library the last week of September and shared the six draft designs with members of the library’s mural design committee, made up of patrons and city and library staff. The students are now working on a final design.
The students will paint murals in two locations. The larger of the two murals will be located near the public computers on a long wall facing the circulation desk; a smaller one will be in the children’s area. Painting will begin on Saturday, Oct. 22 with a children’s mural painting day. Children are invited to stop by the library between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to help paint the mural in their area.
