Of War and Heroes
The nation honors its veterans on Nov. 11. The men and women who protect us and sometimes give up their lives in the effort deserve that special day. Today, more than ever before, we know and recognize the toll military service takes on individuals and the debt we owe veterans.
There are so many items relating to warfare in the Great River Regional Library catalog it’s difficult to sort them. Subject keyword searches using the terms World War, Vietnam War, and Iraq War yield more than 4,000 hits, 800 hits and 400 hits respectively. Additional terms, such as German occupation, prisoners of war, and postwar reconstruction can narrow the field.
The New, Best & Fun page includes a new list of recent Veterans Day titles. It’s an interesting grouping including a variety of subject matter, such as Job Search: Marketing your military experience, The Untold War: Inside the hearts, minds and souls of our soldiers, and Vietnam: Long time coming, about a 16-day bicycle expedition through Vietnam that drew participants from among American and Vietnamese veterans.
