Summer Reading Program Begins June 10 at Great River Regional Library
St. Cloud, MN, May 2013: Great River Regional Library (GRRL) will begin its annual Summer Reading Program (SRP) for children and teens ages 0-18 on Monday, June 10, continuing through Saturday, Aug. 10. The SRP will be offered at all 32 GRRL locations in Central Minnesota.
Two programs are offered: “Dig Into Reading” for children from birth through sixth grade, and
“Beneath The Surface” for children entering grades six through twelve. Children entering sixth grade may choose to register for either program. “Dig Into Reading” includes a baby/toddler program for ages 0 to 3 to enjoy with their parents/caregivers. Watch for fun SRP additions on the library website.
Upon registering, participants will receive reading records that provide a measure of how much summer reading has been done. When completed, these become coupons which can be turned in for prize drawings.
Libraries across the entire region are planning fun kick-off programs and special events to encourage participation. Check out the library events calendar to find out about special programs at your local library.
The goal of the SRP is to encourage children and teens to continue reading during the summer months. Studies show students who enroll in library summer reading programs and continue to read during the summer maintain or improve their reading skills more than those who do not.
Visiting and vacationing children who do not live in the area are welcome to participate in the SRP. All books and reading materials count for the program, including materials that do not belong to the library.
Great River Regional Library (GRRL) provides library services at 32 public libraries in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties. It provides Central Minnesota residents with nearly 1 million books, CDs and DVDs, 250 public computers, programming and information services.
