Naturalization Ceremony Welcomes 90 Citizens at St. Cloud Public Library

The lobby of St. Cloud Public Library resembled the United Nations on Tuesday morning, May 25. Ninety individuals from 34 different countries, together with friends and family, mingled in the library’s Mississippi Room prior to becoming U.S. citizens.

Early Reading Vital

Children who fail to become proficient readers by 4th grade are much less likely to become productive adults than children who are good readers by 4th grade, says a recent report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation. And if America does not improve the reading standards of its children, it is unlikely to achieve future economic well-being.

MNPPA Photography Exhibit on Display at Paynesville Branch Through June

 A selection of award-winning photographs by members of the Minnesota Professional Photographers Association (MNPPA) is on display at the Paynesville branch until the end of June. The photographs, with subjects ranging from animals, landscapes and portraits,  include "Sculpted By The Sea' (photo) by local photographer Sheri Wegner.

ERIC DREGNI, AUTHOR OF "IN COD WE TRUST," TO VISIT BELGRADE LIBRARY

Eric Dregni lived in Trondheim, Norway for a year as a fellowship recipient where he survived a dinner of "rakfisk" (fermented fish) and discovered his great-grandfather's house in Lusterfjord.  Eric will read excerpts from his comedic novel and show slides from his time in Norway on Tuesday, May 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Belgrade Public Library.

Music Fun Mondays In St. Michael

Musical Fun will be provided on Mondays beginning May 17 and continuing through June 28 at the St. Michael Library. Music Fun with Ms. Sandy is a fun class that will provide musical activities, dances and instrument playing  to children ages 4-7 on Mondays from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. Pre-registration is encouraged as there is a limit of 15 students per session.

Mankato's Betsy and Tacy Homes Designated National Literary Landmarks

The childhood homes of Maud Hart Lovelace and Frances Kenney Kirch (Betsy and Tacy) have been designated National Literary Landmarks. A dedication ceremony will take place Thursday, May 20, at 6:00 p.m. at the two houses which face each other at 332 and 333 Center Street in Mankato.
